Emailing your files would take way too long. It'd time out before it even sent anything. You could send pictures and text files but not anything else.

That bootable cd is for windows xp. Is their one for vista?

This is way off topic but this concern windows 7.

I read a small article yesterday that said windows 7 has a bunch
of back doors built in it so that the government can easily sneak
in and search you whole hard drive. Of course, Microsoft denies this.

BEWARE!!!!

What were you planning on sending? System files? That wouldn't work anyway...

I just meant songs, movies, programs, etc. would get deleted.

Hey Grey, how much do you know about Ready Boot in Vista? Do you know if you would see much of an improvement in performance by using it? I have 3gigs of ram and microsoft suggest matching that if you are going to use it. So I was considering buying a 3-4gig flash drive with ready boot tech and trying it out but I am afraid that I might not see much difference. Wasn't sure if you had ever used it, or anyone here for that matter.

Hey El,
I've never used Readyboost, but I've just read about it, and apparently it makes such a small difference it's not worth it, download.com did a survey and found that to make the difference that one gigabyte of RAM would, you would need a GB flash drive. RAM is quite cheap and easy to fit, so you could buy some more RAM if you want a performance boost. 2GB of RAM is 30 euros here, so very cheap.

This might be a silly question but what is the difference between readyboot and readyboost? I've heard that superfect, prefect, readyboot and readyboost are all different things but loosely related to each other. But as far as the difference between boost and boot, I'm at a loss. I thought they were just 2 different names for the same thing but I guess not.

Oh sorry, I've never heard of Readyboot, but I'll research it and get back to you.

After researching Readyboot, I've read that it uses the same service as Readyboost, so I doubt it makes that much of a difference. It might be worth trying it, to see if it will make a difference.

It may rely on the amount of actual RAM you have after reading about it, but like I say, give it a try, and see if it makes a difference.

Also, H/A, I've found a program that can make an image of your disk and copy it to an external HDD.
It's called,EASEUS Todo Backup
Here's a link: You must be logged in to see this link.

Also, I really would reccomend to everyone, that when they're building or buying a new PC, try and get 2 hard drives, and use RAID to set one up as a mirror of the other.
Useful for backup :P

Anyone know anything about SmartErase? I had to pick up another dvd drive yesterday. It was actually much cheaper then I expected. It came with Nero 8 which included something called smarterase. It sounds like it is for erasing stuff off of dvd and cds. My queston is, does this feature allow you to reburn onto a disc that is not an rw? Or is this feature pretty much like a paper shredder and just for erasing disc before you dispose of them? If it allows you to reburn onto a disc that is not rewritable that would be very handy. If it is just to earse before throwing away, then it's not all that useful. It's much quicker just to snap a cd or dvd in two before pitching it if you are worried about somebody digging through your trash and then playing you disc. So, anyone ever use this feature before? I hadn't heard about it til yesterday.

I would think that it just erases the files on CD RWs and perhaps CD Rs. I do not think you can ever re-write a R disk, it's once and that's it. I think it's probably just a wizard to erase the files from a RW so you can re-write it.

yeah it is probably just for erasing a disc if you happen to be paranoid. Its much quicker just to snap them in two though, lol. The box says that Smart-Erase supports the following formats: DVD-/+R DL, CD-R, and DVD-/+R

I probably wont use it then. Same reason I never bought a paper shredder. It's just too easy to crumble them up, rip them up, or burn them. I dont really need another option to shred. Some people might though.

A recommendation for everyone!

Download Malwarebyte's Antimalware from here:
You must be logged in to see this link.

MBAM is a truly excellent malware removal program, specialised for removal.

I would reccomend that everyone downloads it, updates it, and runs a quick scan with it. If you find anything with it, do a full scan.

You may find suprising things, and it may well make your computer faster.

If anyone has any queries about it, I will be pleased to answer.

I second that. Malwarebytes is a good, free program. I have been using it since last year and am very pleased. Definately recommended.
