Well...

I'm not sure I'd put much faith in any group that would promote drugs as a way to spiritual enlightenment, as we really don't need to go that route in order to obtain such enlightenment. There are other, safer routes.

As I have stated, I have never resorted to mind-altering substances to effect spiritual experiences, or enlightenment (if you don't favor the term "spirituality"). I know people who have done so, but none of them, in retrospect, have favorable things to say about their drug-induced experiences--even the ones that seemed "great" at the time.

I don't believe we need to use drugs to reach enlightenment in any area, or to experience the supernatural. I believe we all--everyone of us--have the ability to experience the supernatural; it's just that we have been taught we cannot do this, so we believe we cannot...unless we alter our minds through drugs, etc.

I'm no slamming anyone who uses drugs, so please don't think I am. It's just that drugs can be dangerous, and can both negatively affect our minds, as well as our bodies. I hate to think of anyone compromising their mental faculties or their bodily health, in order to experience things which we can experience through other, safer means.

That's just my take on the issue; I wish you well on your journey, on whatever path you choose to take.

Your Pal,
Cal

There's a group of native spiritualists who believe in reaching spiritual enlightenment using Peyote. I respect their beliefs, but doubt that they have a spiritual experience, merely hallucinate.

It's conducted by a group with a shaman, but still...

I've heard about that. I've even seen it in movies. Religion: one of the biggest crackpot schemes ever created.

Hey, treborn!

I know what you mean. I do understand that many people use drugs, even as Grey said in reference to Native American rituals, to try to experience the supernatural. I'm just not convinced that it's the best way. I don't want to judge anyone on what they do in their quest for enlightenment...I just have chosen to walk a different path.

Thanks for understanding, and I wish you the best in your quest!

Your Pal,
Cal

The idea is to use mind altering drugs to disrupt the brain enough to allow the higher self to come through. The brain voice is so loud sometimes and this is just one of many ways to quiet it while you are trying to get through. But there can sometimes be nasty side effects. I wouldnt suggest playing with it unless you've had experience in this area. It could be very dangerous to somebody just experimenting with it for the first time. A lot of times, people try this who dont know enough about the old traditions or the drug they've chosen. They end up doing more harm then good. I think I would suggest meditation or self hypnosis before I would try drugs. You have to know what type of drug to use, appropriate amount that wont harm your system but still produce desired effect, etc.... We have similar drugs but the knowledge of the rituals and ceremonies is what's lacking and without that, you are just putting yourself at risk.

You think those old ancient languages used in rituals are real?

I really don't know. Who am I to say. They believed and that's what is important. The African tribes and Native American Indians for example where some of the ones who had choosen a much better way in my opinion. They knew things that we are just now starting to consider today in areas like quantum physics. I don't know much about their languages but I think as far ahead as we are them in technology, they were likely just as far ahead of us spiritually/consciously, if not more so.

That's a really interesting perspective.

I dont really know the right words but it's like to say that they spent far more time on the inside, whereas we have become obsessed with the outside. I think their understanding of this world and reality was more correct and it posed a threat to the so called civilized world. But that's just my own opinion.

But as far as the drugs thing, I still wouldnt suggest it. People have been able to achieve much without them. There are many techniques that dont require drugs at all. Edgar Cayce would put himself in a trance-like state, almost a sort of self hypnosis. Nostradamus would meditate but not how we think of meditating today. He was more of a true scryer and preferred the staring techniques, if I remember correctly.

Hi, Everyone!

I think you're right, El: many of the so-called "primitive" peoples have knowledge of spiritual things far beyond us. I like the fact that people, like the Aborigines in Australia, call this "reality" we live in "the Dream." A lot of "primitive" people look at this world much the same as Quantum Physicists do: it is malleable, and affected--and changed--by thought and intention.

I've begun to practice "creating my own reality," so to speak...I've seen some remarkable things happen when I see my intention as a "done deal," rather than a wishful thought, or something afar off that has not transpired yet.

I believe we can learn a lot from the "primitive" peoples of our world...One thing I'm sure we'd discover is that they're not as "primitive" as we had previously thought!

Have a great week!

Your Pal,
Cal
